Magazine Homework - Research for preparation.

Research – My magazine Idea

I’ve chosen to do R&B (rhythm and Beat) /Hip-hop mainly because I enjoy that genre and also because it’s popular so it is bound to have a wider range and varieties within the target audience. I feel that this particular genre covers a lot of artists than other genres e.g. rock, classical etc. This meaning that it will be a lot more popular as more people are expected to listen to it. Even the style of the genre within R&B will grab attention from other people who may not listen to it as much because they’re many types of ways to show and perform R&B music.

A lot of the time, R&B/Hip Hop music is targeted at 15-35 (on average). Mainly due to the magazines being explicit, but teenagers who read this may inspire to be like the rappers or singers they listen to due to taking on an interest in the style of their music. For the older audience, they may enjoy listening to it because hip-hop has been around for so long and R&B is just an altered Morden version of it, younger audiences like it.

I hope to make a magazine with appropriate content related to this genre. I will include the latest trend in music, the gossip and new stories on the artists and may include quizzes, fashion etc. This will target the specific audiences’ and my aimed is to create a magazine in the style of the vibe and billboard.

This highlights the convention and use of unique gratification in a form of orginal identity. I want my magazine to contain a sense of personal identification other than just the title, and an element of surveillance. This way it's allows the audience to pick and choose the favourite prefrence of choice and use the website in their own way. Also it should have a sharing option so that the users can share their favourite songs and artsits with a wider group of people, this creates a personal relationship between the users and other people who are not on the website.
And also surveillance, constant updates (which is more handy than print magazines) daily updates on the artists, new songs, trends etc.

  1. How are print magazines updated?

Why do print magazines appeal to "older" fans and online to "younger?" Be explicit when using terms such as young and old. Remember, old to you might be different to what old is to me.

How do you know that online magazines are more popular? Look at a company like Conde Nast and see what their circulation figures are like for both.
